About

Cabrini is a sweeping biographical epic that tells the extraordinary true story of Francesca Cabrini, an Italian immigrant who arrived in New York City in 1889 with little more than her faith and an unshakable conviction that the world's most vulnerable deserved better. Greeted by disease, crime, and impoverished children living in squalor, Cabrini — despite suffering from poor health and speaking broken English — refused to accept the status quo. She set off on a daring mission to convince the hostile mayor of New York and the skeptical Catholic Church hierarchy to provide housing and healthcare for orphaned and destitute children. With an entrepreneurial mind, fierce determination, and a faith that moved mountains, Cabrini built an empire of hope that would eventually encompass 67 institutions across the United States, Europe, and South America. Directed by Alejandro Monteverde (Sound of Freedom) and featuring a luminous performance by Cristiana Dell'Anna in the title role, Cabrini earned the distinction of achieving the **highest combined Rotten Tomatoes score of any film in 2024**, surpassing even major studio releases. The film was released on International Women's Day and grossed $19 million domestically.

Cabrini Review 10

Cabrini is surprisingly beautiful, making great use of dramatic lighting and including carefully composed scenes modeled on contemporary photographs by Jacob Riis.

Cabrini Review 9

The Italian actress Cristiana Dell'Anna turns in a stunningly effective, movie-star performance in a film that is reminiscent of old-fashioned religious biopics such as The Song of Bernadette and Joan of Arc.

Cabrini Review 8

Cabrini is in no way a perfect movie, but a damn dignified one that honors the little-known efforts of these fearless women.

Cabrini Review 5

As a somewhat Christian myself I was very glad I had the opportunity to watch a film about a Catholic saint I hadn't heard about. The performances by the entire cast were very good with Dell'Anna being an absolute revelation to me. She controlled every scene she was in and that's saying a lot.

Cabrini Review 4

Although I avoid religious films that have a holy message to relay, I have become a cheerleader for Angel Studios because of Cabrini. They have a production richness exemplified in the realistic and lush cinematography. Both believable heroes and the goodness of the characters help make the film memorable for putting us directly in the action of 1899 New York City.

Cabrini Review 3

Thank goodness for the subtle performance of Cristiana Dell'Anna in the title role. She's a fairly mesmerizing presence. Cabrini dealt with serious health issues and thus was slight and a bit frail. Yet she had a will of steel, driven by her faith and her own ambition. Dell'Anna conveys all of this with seemingly little effort; she really inhabits this role.

Cabrini Review 2

Cabrini is skilfully directed by Alejandro Gomez Monteverde. Cristiana Dell'Anna is an Italian actress who I hadn't seen before — she is wonderful in the role of Sister Cabrini. I can recommend Cabrini — it tells a little-known inspirational story of a woman who, despite chronic ill health and broken English, uses her entrepreneurial mind to build an empire of hope unlike anything the world had ever seen.
